- The Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange Program
The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania established the Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange (PA-HIE) as its Industry Partnership to bring together industry, academic and government leaders to advance patient safety, medical innovation, healthcare quality and advanced, interoperable eHealth technologies throughout Pennsylvania.
The PA-HIE is focused on working to deploy advanced technologies in the healthcare sector. We believe technology innovation is a great pathway to improving patient safety and healthcare quality. The Advisory Board supports the federated model serving as the foundation for all of our PA-HIE efforts and through its efforts builds a strong foundation for the Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange. In each of its priority projects, the Advisory Board takes a regional leadership approach for support of necessary broadband infrastructure; workforce and training; deployment strategies; and awareness and public relations.
The PA-HIE shall be a leading catalyst for Pennsylvania’s rapid discovery, demonstration, development and deployment of medical innovations, science discoveries and health information technologies that safely and securely improve patient safety, healthcare quality, outcomes and efficiencies, and reduce torts, medical errors and health care costs across Pennsylvania communities.

Networking events and industry showcases have been part of the Technology Council since its inception. We recognize excellence and showcase our participating companies in annually in our TechQuest Report and at our electrified, fast-paced Awards Gala. We also host TechNets across the state to allow business networking opportunities to our participating companies in a social, relaxed setting. In addition, we offer our member companies the opportunity to bring their group for an evening of fun and a little team building at our Geek Nights. These are always a big hit with our technical professionals who serve on our front lines of making technology projects happen and yes, we encourage Geek Speak.
- TechQuest-Broadband Service
Launched in March 2007, the TechQuest Broadband service is designed to accelerate the deployment of advanced broadband networks across Pennsylvania. By combining the purchasing power of large and small organizations, buyers of telecommunications services can secure better services for lower prices. It’s called demand aggregation and it works. Last year TechQuest-Broadband helped dozens of organizations secure $2.1 million in advanced broadband contracts. TechQuest-Broadband actively seeks state, federal, corporate, and foundation grants to leverage its projects and services.
Exaflood 2008 is an additional component to our pursuit of encouraging every community in Pennsylvania to have a greater investment in their communications infrastructure because those are the areas that are going to be much better positioned for future economic success and won’t fall behind in the global marketplace. The Exaflood, the exponential growth of the internet, waits for no region or state. Just 2 years ago, the internet used one (1) exabyte. Now, the internet is using seven (7) exabytes per month, and usage is rapidly growing. TechQuest-Broadband is focused on connecting every region in Pennsylvania with advanced broadband, and the technologies that run on advanced broadband applications.
- TechQuest-Internship
The TechQuest-Intership program is committed to helping form special relationships between educational facilities, students and our companies to develop and deploy a statewide Internship grant program designed to attract and retain more high school students into higher education degree programs focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and more higher education graduates into career pathways in Pennsylvania.† To date TQ-Internship has placed almost 100 students in PAID Internships with payroll paid to the students approaching a total of $500,000.

The TechQuest-Workforce Training Program is focused on providing best-of-breed workforce training at the most affordable prices to Pennsylvania companies so they can attract, retain and train the best possible workforce.† The TechQuest Workforce Training is a series of linked, creative solutions that build upon existing job training infrastructure and resources. TechQuest introduces new and incumbent workers to more than 45 regional technology career pathways and the steps necessary to enter the IT industry.† In addition, the tools present academic opportunities available at the region’s higher education institutions and enable participants to plan long-range IT education and career paths.†
